The holy month of Ramadan has begun, and in a very rare move, Fortnite is offering unique Ramadan-inspired cosmetics.
Fortnite is introducing the Radiant Moon cosmetic, which will be available at some point during the event at Lanter Fest Oasis, Fortnite’s Creative Island. The Radian Moon cosmetic set includes Anwar and Noorah skins, a Lunar Lantern, and a Moonlit Blades backstrap. These cosmetics will be launched on March 10y at noon ET and will be available through April 10y At noon Eastern time.
These cosmetic items will be available for purchase using in-game currency V-bucks. However, this is the first time that Fortnite represents Middle Eastern culture.
At the head of this change is former Epic Games employee Islam Ibrahim. We should keep in mind that Lantern Fest Oasis is currently in its third year.
However, despite the focus on Islamic fashion featuring full head coverings or masks, representation of the Middle East has been long overdue as the Muslim community is largely underrepresented in leather, regardless of any title.
Abraham revealed that the Lantern Fest skins were the last things they worked on before leaving Epic. The road has not been easy, as they stated that it took “years of convincing” for the Middle Eastern-inspired clothing to come as part of the Ramadan event.
Ibrahim stated that presenting Ramadan events three years ago was “his idea.” After leaving Epic, Ibrahim is currently the Senior Marketing Director at Nintendo’s AIC.
This is a huge step for a large community that is underrepresented at every turn in popular culture and the gaming world. Ibrahim, who is at the heart of the action, deserves a lot of credit for bringing about change and achieving it.
