summary:
- Ishida’s last words to Sato may contain a secret formula for a hidden office, evidence against Tozawa, or the name of his killer.
- No matter what he said, the words would have a huge impact on the plot of the story in the future.
The last words Ishida says to Sato in Tokyo Vice Season 2 are one of the biggest surprises of the new season.
After the unexpected ending of Tokyo Vice Season 2, Episode 5, Sato and Chihara-Kai face serious danger from the Tozawa clan in Oyabun’s absence.
Hiroto Katagiri and Jake Adelstein do their best to identify Ishida’s killer, leading to a dramatic confrontation at Katagiri’s house in Season 2, Episode 6.
Ishida only appears briefly in the opening scene of Season 2, Episode 6 where he refuses to go to the hospital.
In the final scene where Ishida is alive, he whispers something in Sato’s ear that somehow ends up being her last words.
Therefore, everything that Ishida trusts in Sato can only be accessed from him and seems important to their long-term relationship.
Since the beginning of Tokyo Vice, Sato has been developed to be the only character Ishida can trust.
Ishida supposedly entrusts Sato with the secret formula in a safe hidden behind his desk.
Some speculation also suggests that Ishida may have left behind a handwritten announcement in that safe, naming Sato as his successor to lead Chihara Kai.
However, without this crucial proof, Sato’s hands are tied, resulting in him being transferred to serve under the temporary command of Oyabun Hayama – a man notorious for his reckless and selfish ways, and unlikely to relinquish control easily.
The safe could contain additional evidence of Hiyama betraying Ishida and working for Tozawa.
However, many fans say that it could simply hold a parting gift from Ishida to Sato, perhaps a valuable emblem or piece of information that will help Sato and Chihara Kai in the future.
Although we are not sure if Hayama was behind Ishida’s assassination, we do know that Tozawa was the mastermind.
Ishida’s last words to Sato may contain the name of his killer or possible suspects. When the killers enter Paulina’s club, we see genuine fear in Ishida’s eyes as he calls out to Sato. It’s a bit unlikely that Ishida would deduce his killer on the verge of death, but it’s possible.
When Tozawa and Ishida last saw each other, they discussed forming a temporary alliance. This was to counter an intense crackdown by the Tokyo police led by Superintendent Nagata.
Since Nagata was determined to target all yakuza groups, it seemed like a good opportunity for Tozawa and Ishida to cooperate for their mutual benefit. Tozawa is known for having seemingly innocent people on his team. With this in mind, it wouldn’t be surprising if someone with ambitions like Hayama, or someone less predictable, turned on President Ishida.
Finally, despite being lower in the rankings than Hayama, Sato definitely deserves to be the new Oyabun. On the trip to Polina Club, Ishida clearly states that he believes Sato will be an oyabun one day. Hayama doesn’t deserve to be the new Oyabun because he doesn’t have Chihara-Kai’s best interests in mind.
Thanks to Ishida’s wisdom, we can be sure that everything he said to Sato on his deathbed will protect Chihara Kai’s legacy.
